Opposition research?

Our regional reporter John Weiss was at the Winona County District Courthouse today doing his routine review of court records when he overheard an interesting request:

A young man asked the clerk about getting all court records — civil, criminal — for Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman now running for the Republican nomination for president. You'll recall she was a student at Winona State University, who graduated in 1978. The time period requested fell within in that timeframe and beyond.

Weiss said the clerk wouldn't identify the person who made the request, but said officials would have to go into the archives to find the information that far back. It will take some work to do so.

No word on who this person is working for. Stay tuned.
