From cattleman's daughter to state rep

Jeanne Poppe

Check out this profile of Austin Rep. Jeanne Poppe done by Capitol Report. The article is titled "The school counselor who grew up on a farm values her small town roots." In the article, the author describes how Poppe — which he notes is pronounced (POPP-ee) — grew up in Houston, MInn. and was the daughter of a cattleman.

Other interesting tidbits include her remembering as a child when a tornado swept through the family's farm, destroying the barn. She is quoted  as saying "I remember my sister, my brother and their classmates coming out to track down turkeys and pick up debris."

The Democrat also talks about losing her first election bid for the House of Representatives in 2002 to Republican Jeff Anderson.
