More on 7th Rib=antique shop

I teased this earlier with a followup posted at the end of November. Here's the piece that will be in my column Monday:

Linda Bucknell, the owner of Antique Manor in Stewartville, has plans for the Racine building that use to house the popular 7th Rib restaurant.

I thought I’d try something different,” she says.

So she and her husband Bruce, who also owns Bruce Bucknelll Construction, bought the 33-year-old building along U.S. 63 near Racine in August.

Now they are renovating it with plans to move the antique shop into about 6,000-square-feet of it. The shop, which has been in Stewartville for 12 years, will also have a name change. Antique manor will become Horse Feathers. “I just thought it would be a fun name,” Bucknell says.

The rest of old Rib – around 3,000-square-feet – will be leased out for retail.

So when will Horse Feathers be ready to open?

“We’re not on any time schedule,” she says. “Some time in mid-spring…maybe.”

Old 7th Rib = Antiques shop

The former 7th Rib building along U.S. 63 in Racine will become home to antiques shop in the near future.

Bruce and Linda Bucknell bought the building at the end of August. Now they are renovating it with plans to eventually move their business in Stewartville – Antique Manor - to the Racine site.

They are looking at options to expand what the business does and hope to have Horse Feathers – the proposed new business name – open sometime in mid-spring.

Antique Manor is the Stewartville business is right next to the future home of Pizza Ranch. In fact, the Bucknells sold the land that new pizza place will be built upon.

I have been tracking this one since late spring. And I should more in print on Monday.

The Bucknells also own Bruce Bucknell Construction.

The 7th Rib closed in July of 2004 After 31 years of serving up barbecue ribs and one-pound pork chops.

The 7th Rib opened in 1973, founded by Richard Walters, his wife Lana, and Stephen Bauter. Popular dishes included hefty portions of steaks, chops, ribs and seafood.

The family sold the restaurant in October 2001 to Jeff Windt, a chef from Kansas City.

Wet pet store + grand opening

The Exotic World of Fish store in the Barlow Plaza in Rochester is having a grand opening this weekend – Friday through Sunday. I'm not sure what it will entail, but I'm sure there will be plenty of water and fins.

I wrote about this business before. It opened in June.

The owners are Tom Keel and Brad Cooper.

A deal to buy the former 7th Rib building in Racine is in the works.

The deal is far from being done. However, if it plays out as it stands, that building along U.S. 63 long known for its good food will become a retail center instead of a restuarant.
