Is new café cooking?

I think I spotted an "Open" sign Monday evening lit up in the window of Dennis and Lynn Wong's new Zumbro River Cafe.

This is the place that is connected to their Dunn Bros. coffee shop on Elton Hills N.W.

Anyone out there know if this is open? I'll check with Dennis or Lynn today, but thought somebody who stopped there on this rainy morningmight be able to quickly confirm this.

Here's some background on project:

Int71 The Wongs, who own and operate the two Rochester Dunn Bros. coffee shops, have been overseeing construction of Zumbro River Cafe, a small cafe adjacent to and connected with their Elton Hills Northwest location.

The cafe, which will seat about 35 when it is completed, is being built in 950 square feet of space east of the coffee shop, between Dunn Bros. and the Olmsted National Bank branch. While it is a separate operation, it will have a very close relationship with the coffee shop.

"It is kind of a unique situation," Wong said. "Our beverage service will still include all of the Dunn Bros. drinks, but the menu will be more extensive with comfort food entrees, and the cafe will have table service rather than counter service."

That means servers will take orders at the table in the cafe, while customers will still go through a line at the counter at the coffee shop.

Went to check it out today for lunch, it's not open yet.

I'm relatively new to town but wasn't that Dunn Bros. something else by them before it became a Dunn Bros. franchise? I thought there was something like that which is why they still have that big sign outside saying they have wine when they don't.

I know Osaka has opened.

Dunn Bros used to be Java Cafe
