Allegiant Air pulling out of Roch.
After about two and half years of flying directly to Las Vegas from Rochester twice a week, Allegiant Air has decided its bet never paid off.
“Unfortunately, due to lack of market demand, we will end our service from Rochester,” stated Allegiant Air CEO and President Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr. in an announcement this afternoon.
Allegiant plans to end its Monday and Friday nonstop flights from the Rochester International Airport to Las Vegas on Feb. 15.
Anyone with reservations beyond that date will be contacted by Allegiant Air for “reaccomodation.”
During 2008, 27,854 passengers flew out of Rochester on Allegiant.
“I’m extremely disappointed,” said Rochester International Airport Manager Steve Leqve. “It is really unfortunate. I was hoping they would do well in this market.

This is unfortunate. I flew them when I went to Vegas and I was extremely satisfied, and was planning to fly them again in the future.

So many flights in and out of RST are cancelled it's hardly worth it. MSP is unfortunately the only way to go.

That is so disappointing!! I really enjoyed the convenience of flying out of Roch, nonstop even! they had great service. Our flights were always full, so not real sure what they think full needs to be!!

Maybe if they offered flights more than 2 days a week they would have had more business.
I looked at flying with them out to Vegas. Basically would have had to fly on the 2 days out of the week that I would have least preferred based on my intended schedule. Plus I thought they were supposed to be a lot cheaper than what rates I was pulling up.

We always had wonderful flights to Vegas. I wonder if people were only buying the cheap flights and not doing the packages where maybe the airline was making most of their money. We will be very sad to not have a direct flight out of Rochester to Vegas! :( It was so easy with little kids too!

I'm so sad about this, I've made the trip on Allegiant many times and it was wonderful every time. Very few people I ever talked to heard of Allegiant. What a shame!! Better advertising would have been a real plus, I think they should reconsider.

Funny, just shortly before that announcement someone who works at Rochester airport told me that supposedly they were adding service to Florida.
Unfortunate though indeed. I think the travel dates were not good though.
Leaving Thursday, returning Sunday would have been better for most Vegas trips.

I live in the southern part of the Twin Cities so it was a little further drive then going to MSP but the price of the airfare and the non-stop round trip flights were great! I've flown out of there 3 times in the last two years, every flight was full and each experience was just fine! Airfares are close to double that flying out of MSP and there's usually a stop along the way. I guess I won't be going to Vegas again anytime soon.
