IHOP taking a bad hop?
Well, following up all of the questions about the possibility of International House of Pancakes flipping into Rochester, I made a call to Jennifer Pendergrass of the IHOP support center:
"At this point this is not an approved site for an IHOP location, but that doesn't mean that a franchisee may or may not checking out the area. There just is not an approved site at this time and therefore not any other information I can provide you."

kinda funny since The Ranch is quitting being The Ranch in fear of IHOP

Who said the ranch was in fear of Ihop? It seems like Ihop gets mentioned alot here and they do have good food but just not ready yet to come here.

Methinks it's odd, though, that they have been advertising on local television...

That what I was told when I asked them about the change.
I would prefer they stayed The Ranch.

I loved the Ranch too but then I loved Golden Corral also and they had to change to Gorillas, Its all about change i guess.

Golden Corral was forced to change?

The adv. is probalbly the twin cities stations that we watch here in Roch. I saw one the other day and thought it was channel 6 but the 5 news guy popped up with an ad about the news coming up. Plus I ate at one in the cities not to long ago and was not impressed.

Naw, I'm pretty sure I saw it on KTTC...?

Why was Golden Corrall forced to change? they chose to change by getting out of the fanchise fees and being more family orientated. I see ads for Sonic on tv yet we dont have one?

It's called national advertising people..KTTC doesn't just run local business commercials

That's true RochesterLiberal. IHOP may run during a national break or a syndicated break, but they are not placing locally. You may also see advertisers like Chilis running on local tv stations, but they are not buying locally. Jennebach - aren't you in radio sales? Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I thought. Thought you would be up on media competitors if that were the case.

Good points, however, for some reason I thought the IHOP commercials were in a "local" break with local advertisers... I could be wrong. I also never saw a single IHOP commercial until after the rumors about them coming to Rochester started. And for the most part, National Advertising may be placed by agencies, but would still have locations in the market they are being broadcast in. Example: Ford commercials for local dealerships, etc. I've had people ask me about IHOP repeatedly, and they think that they're planning on coming to Rochester. The commercials, in their mind, confirm that. JLS, no need to get all personal... I keep up plenty with the competition, thank you:)

Jennebach, based on some of the rough cuts that aren't timed quite right, I suspect the locals are letting the national "may override locally" ads bleed through when they don't sell a slot. So you end up with two local ads, a national ad, and a bumper for the news in a 4 slot break that they're allowed to replace.
