Mayo Clinic + Dubai conference
Mayo Clinic – and probably other Rochester groups – will soon send representatives to Dubai for the upcoming, massive Arab Health Conference 2008. It has about 2,300 exhibitors slated.
Mayo Clinic already has a Middle East office in Dubai Healthcare City to provide general information, appointment-scheduling assistance and medical services.
In April 2005, a Mayo Clinic also opened a small clinic with a cardiologist and team of support staff to see patients with heart conditions.
Here's some from a release about Mayo and some doctors who will presenting at this conference:

At the Arab Health Congress, three Mayo Clinic physicians will be among the presenters:• Edgardo I. Gimenez, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and a Consultant in the Department of Radiology. Dr. Gimenez’s presentation will focus on the MRI of the breast: imaging findings and clinical applications. His clinical practice specialties include breast imaging and intervention, abdominal/pelvic imaging and intervention with a focus on ultrasound. He has presented numerous lectures worldwide and written several articles and book chapters on radiology imaging. Dr. Gimenez’s research has included breast cancer studies with MR imaging and cryoblation treatment of breast lesions as well as malignant disease of the abdomen and pelvis.
• Amy L. McIntosh, M.D., is a member of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, specializing in the care of pediatric patients with orthopedic problems. Dr. McIntosh will discuss etiology, incidence and radiographic classification of supracondylar humerus fractures in children. Her lecture will concentrate on the current literature in regards to treatment, and commonly associated acute and chronic complications. She is actively involved in clinical research and her interests include
• Paul M. Petty, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and a Consultant in the Department of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Petty’s presentation will focus on the surgical approach to the circumferential body lift in the massive weight loss patient, and the appropriate marking and efficient intraoperative management of the process. The majority of his practice is in circumferential body lift and the ancillary techniques associated with the massive weight loss patient. He has developed special techniques for managing breast tissue in gynecomastia. He also maintains an active interest in breast surgery of all varieties including reconstruction and aesthetic applications

The Mayo Dubai office has been a total failure for years. Why they keep it open is beyond logic.

ERD, what are you basing that statement on? Do you go there often? My contacts in Dubai have been quite happy with the service they've gotten there.
