Wow -- this just in: The Rochester Senior Center and the Rochester Recreation Center have pulled out of next week's Post-Bulletin Dialogues program on the new seniors center-rec center project.
The Dialogues program was to be at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Rochester Public Library. We've already announced it in a few places, had it in calendars, promoted it at the library and had ads planned for this weekend.
We had a panel that included leaders from the Rochester Senior Center, Rec Center, City Council Member Mike Wojcik, possibly another council member (I've checked with two) and that's where I stopped.
But Sally Gallagher, executive director of the Rochester Seniors Center, said in an email to me just now that "I just came from a project team meeting where there was unanimous opinion from the group to decline the invitation to participate in a dialogue meeting with Mr. Wojcik about the project.
"We appreciate the opportunity but do not see a benefit of a dialogue meeting at this time, especially after the dialogue that occurred at the public hearing on Monday evening," she said in the email.
The program was set before the council meeting this week, where the council voted 6-1 to provide $2.3 million more for the project. It was intended to be informational from the start, though of course Wojcik has been a recent critic.
So -- this is interesting. Time is short, but we'll pull another program together for next Thursday.
