Indoor swimming pool at Alpine Inn being "dewatered"

Report from RFD -- we'll have the story today:

The Alpine Inn in the 1200 Block of 2 ST SW across from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester has a basement full of water up to ground level.  It appears that the domestic water service has ruptured. This is a vacant building slated for demolition.

The problem was discovered because the adjacent business, Fiksdal Carousel Flowers, noted water seeping into their basement from the west.  investigation by the Fire Department and Rochester Public Utilities revealed the water service leak in the Alpine Inn.

RFD has begun dewatering operations of the basement of the Alpine Inn.  This is important to relieve hydraulic pressure from the walls of the business next door to reduce the risk of collapse and damage to the foundation.

Questions about the operation can be referred to Battalion Chief Eric Kerska at 285-8965 or Deputy Chief Steven Belau at 269-8152.
