09prostitution (Gregorson 23 inches will break story FOR FRONT) A 16-year-old girl silently begged for help seconds after another woman told a man at a Rochester hotel he didn’t have enough money for them to perform sex acts with him.
The man told police the girl looked athim and silently moved her mouth to say “help me.” He ran towards the door of the motel room while the other, woman, 41, lunged at the teen. The man said he held the woman back, so the girl could get out.
On Monday, the man accused of bringing the women to Rochester to practice prostitution, was charged with three felony counts.
Sean Miguel Thomas, 41, who told Judge Debra Jacobson he lives at 5933 25th Ave. N.W., was arraigned on charges of soliciting someone under 18 to practice prostitution, promoting prostitution in someone under 18 and receiving profit from prostitution of someone under 18. If convicted he faces a presumptive nine year prison term, according to prosecutor Karen Sullivan-Hook.

09 offender (Pieters, 14 inches, w pic, locator map) - A plan to place prisoners in homes in two southwest Rochester neighborhoods is going to be put under a public microscope in the coming weeks.
The Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority voted Monday to table a request that it withdraw applications for two conditional use permits and a variance for houses at 1119 Seventh Ave. S.W., and 1813 First Ave. S.W.
09shooting suspects (Gregorson, 22 inches w/ mugs) Three of four suspects in the city’s latest drive-by shooting made their first appearances in Olmsted District Court on Monday afternoon, and a fourth was expected to be in court this morning.9/9
Antuan Devon Williams, 25, 310 31st St. N.E.; Robert Deangelo Richardson, 31, 624 Fourth Ave. S.E.; and Quantez Stephan Taylor, 24, 2303 Elton Hills Dr. N.W., are each charged with drive-by shooting toward a motor vehicle or building and making terroristic threats, felonies. In addition, Richardson is charged with being in possession of a pistol in a public place without a permit, a felony; and gross misdemeanor carrying a pistol in a public place without a permit.
The charges stem from a drive-by shooting early the morning of Sept. 5 in the 1000 block of Fifth Street Northeast, where a parked car was peppered with six bullets. Numerous shell casings were found in a grassy area behind the vehicle.

Austin’s 62nd National Barrow Show began Sunday. Every year, the four-day “world series of swine shows,” held at the Mower County Fairgrounds, brings participants from all over the county to Austin. This year, more than 400 people participating in the event are booking hotels, eating in the city’s restaurants and visiting local tourist spots, and in turn, are boosting the local economy.

School board members and interim Superintendent Bruce Anderson met Monday with Kenneth Dragseth, search consultant for School Exec Connect, to discuss the search process. The Chicago-based firm was hired by the board last spring to lead the search.
A letter detailing the steps of the search will be sent this week to parents, staff and others in the district.

09 hormel institute AUST (12 inches) - A $448,000 grant will support breast-cancer research at the Hormel Institute in Austin.
Cancer researcher Michael Grossmann of the Hormel Institute received the grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, according to the institute.
Grossmann, an assistant professor in the institute’s nutrition and metabolism lab, will use the money to continue his research into two areas of diet that might help prevent breast cancer, officials say.
