I'm off on vacation in about 60 minutes, and here's a welcome sendoff from a reader:
Dear Mr. Furst,
Let me say that I love almost all of the recent changes to the P-B. I wish the Answer Man was still in twice a week, but until he can find an answer to getting more hours in the day, I'll have to live with the compromise of once a week! The local articles, by local writers, national/world news with the maps and numbering, weekend summaries, are very, very good. I even didn't mind the font change!
As for those who complain about the placement of various state/nation/world items in the paper.... remind them of the P-B's commitment to local news and let 'em squawk about the fat dog on the front page. You'll never get an agreement on the 'most important' item ..... as for Live Earth coverage...famous people getting on the latest politically correct bandwagon really isn't news anyway.
And not to beat a dead horse.... but I was very glad for the question about 41st St. I don't know what 'Mr. Gaffe's' problem was, but I felt you were perfectly clear the first time! It is a dedicated lane to U.S. 52 South. If I want to turn right on to it, I don't have to yield to anyone. However, if I want to get on 41st Street, I do, because I need to get into someone else's lane. Whenever I'm coming from the West or North, and want to get on the highway, I always check over my shoulder before merging to that lane in case someone is using it! Common sense, people!
I'm all done. Have a great day!
