What's your favorite cookie memory?

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its famous chocolate chip cookie during National Cookie Month, the Doubletree by Hilton in downtown Rochester is asking people to share their favorite cookie memory. For each of the first 200 memories the hotel receives, it'll donate $5 to the Mayo Children's Hospital.

A warm, chocolate chip cookie is part of the hotel’s reputation, so the hotel wants to hear about people's own unforgettable experiences where cookies were involved, right here in Rochester.

One memory will be chosen by Doubletree. The winner will receive a free two-night stay at the Rochester Doubletree and a $100 gift card for Pescara restaurant.

The contest runs through Nov. 8.

For many years I gathered a number of my friends for a holiday cookie making marathon. Its easier and more fun to bake with good friends and family. We usually started very early and finished in the late afternoon. Hundreds of dozens of cookie and bars were made. Some successfully, some not. One of those years we had an overnight snow storm that left more than 6 inches of new snow on the ground and many of the bakers unable to travel. My best friend and I decided to forge ahead and enlisted her 9 year old son to help. We made it through most of the baking frenzy without trouble and only a little interference from hungry cookie "taste testers".The 9 year old was given a batch of Gingersnaps to bake with supervision. 9 year olds have a very limited attention span resulting in several dozen burned cookies. The burned cookies were thrown out into the snow for the birds to find later. We started again and watched the oven more closely. Later we noticed the 9 year olds pet Labrador in the yard moving from one burnt cookie hole to another. She consumed all the burnt cookies and had the big belly to prove it!
