NAHL | Aberdeen makes a coaching change
Posted by: Feldman
The Austin Bruins will play at Aberdeen this Friday and Saturday, the last games for the Bruins before a short holiday break. Aberdeen will be under new direction, as head coach/GM Pete Sauer was fired this week.
He will be replaced by assistant coach Garrett Strot, a former Coulee Region Chill head coach, for the remainder of the season. The Wings will then make a decision on a permanent head coach.
Sauer helped establish the NAHL in Aberdeen in 2010, but the Wings have slipped to last place in the NAHL Central Division, already 24 points behind first-place Austin, and 10 points out of fourth place, the last playoff spot from the division.
The Aberdeen American News ran a couple of stories this week about Sauer's firing:
* Sports reporter John Papendick says Sauer was a class act on the way out.
* Wings owners decided "a major change was needed."
