Landherr named football coach at Mayo (UPDATED 11:55 a.m.)
FELDY: Kevin Landherr has been named the new head football coach at Mayo High School. Landherr, 28, has been an assistant at Mayo for the past four seasons. He played on the 1996 Spartans team that advanced to the Prep Bowl. As a sophomore that season, he was a starter.
He went on to become a three-year starter at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Landherr becomes the fourth head coach in Mayo history, following Neil Davis (1966-71), Ralph Pucci (1972-93) and James Miller (1994-2007). Miller resigned in February after 14 seasons and 111 victories, the most in Mayo history.
Here's the story that will appear in Saturday's P-B.
I spent about 20 minutes talking with Landherr this morning at Mayo. He was pretty calm for a young guy who was just named to a pretty nice coaching position. He seemed very appreciative, and I think he's already focused on keeping Mayo's strong tradition alive.
